Take our curved linear circular ring suspended linear as example:
Series connection is connecting the positive (+) terminal of the first LED strip module to the negative (-) terminal of the second LED strip module. This pattern is from the negative (-) of the second strip to the positive (+) of the third strip and so on. At the same time, the negative (-) of the first LED strip is wired to the (+) of the second, then the (-) of the second to the (+) of the third and so on.
In a series connection of LED strip light source, the current of the string is equal to the current of the first LED strip, while the voltage is the sum of the voltages for all LED strips (voltage of the first LED multiplied by the number of LED strips):
1 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip: 240mA at 51VDC
2 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip in series: 240mA at 110VDC (= 51VDC x 2)
3 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip in series: 240mA at 153VDC (= 51VDC x 3)
4 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip in series: 240mA at 204VDC (= 51VDC x 4)
Parallel circuit is applied by connecting the positive (+) of the first LED strip to the (+) of the second LED strip. This pattern is from the (+) of the second strip to the (+) of the third strip and so on.
At the same time the negative (-) of the first LED strip is wired to (-) of the second, then (-) of the second to (-) of the third and so on.
1 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip: 240mA at 51VDC
2 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip in parallel connection: 480mA at 51VDC (= 240mA x 2)
3 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip in series: 720mA at 51VDC (= 240mA x 3)
4 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip in series: 960mA at 51VDC (= 240mA x 4)
3. Combined circuit
Series and parallel circuits can be combined, for example:
We create one group of two curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip in series. As one LED strip has 240mA at 51VDC, the group will have 240mA at 110VDC (= 51VDC x 2)
This group we connect in parallel to a second group, identical to the first (240mA at 110VDC). Then values of the string will be: 480mA (=240mA x 2) and 110VDC (=51V x 2).
The above can apply for single LEDs also. On our flex LED Strip 48VDC, segments of 13 LEDs in series are daisy-chained in parallel for a total length of 50 meters. The total circuit requires a constant voltage driver of 48VDC.
4. Selecting the LED driver for a string of LED strips
Before selecting the LED driver the current and voltage value of the string of LED strips must be known and the type of input: constant current or constant voltage.
Examples:
1 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip: 240mA at 51VDC will require the constant current LED driver at 51V,less than 240mA,like 200mA is ok.
2 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip: 240mA at 51VDC LED strips in parallel: 480mA(= 240mA x 2) at 51VDC can be connected to a constant current LED driver 51V,less than 480mA,like 450mA is ok.
3 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip: 240mA at 51VDC in parallel: 720mA(= 240mA x 3) at 51VDC require a constant current LED driver at 51V ,720mA ,like 700mA is ok,
4 x curved pcb L38.1*W1.5 cm Osram CRI90+ LED strip: 240mA at 51VDC in parallel: 960mA(= 240mA x 4) at 51VDC need a constant current LED driver Osram OT fit 55/220..240/1A0 CS L G2 with 1050mA output setting at 4 > 51VDC.
50 meters of 48VDC LED Strip at 48VDC and have a total power consumption of 220W (=4.5W x 50). In this case we can use one constant voltage LED driver at 48V, such as ELG-240-48A with 240W maximum output.
